Our Programmes

Each programme is rooted in the real needs of the communities we serve. We do not impose solutions — we design interventions alongside beneficiaries, ensuring that every initiative is relevant, respectful, and effective.

Janani Home for Girls

Janani Home for Girls

A safe and nurturing home providing shelter, care, and education for abandoned and orphaned girls.

Every child deserves a place where they feel safe, loved, and encouraged to dream. Janani Home for Girl Children was created with this belief at its heart. Located in Kovilpalayam, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, the home was established by Prime Social and Educational Trust to provide care, education, and opportunities for girls who need support and protection.

The journey began with just one girl. Founder Director S. M. Arasu believed that every child deserves a safe place to live and an opportunity to build a better future. What started as a small effort gradually grew through dedication, hard work, and the support of kind-hearted donors and well-wishers.

The path was not easy. Janani Home operated from rented buildings for many years and faced financial difficulties, floods, and challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. There were times when meeting daily expenses such as food, rent, and maintenance was difficult. Despite these struggles, the commitment to the children remained strong.

With continuous support from donors, volunteers, and friends of the organization, Janani Home was able to continue its work and eventually establish a stable home for the children. This became an important milestone in the organization's journey.

Today, Janani Home provides care, protection, education, and emotional support to 12 girls. The home offers a family-like environment where children can study, develop life skills, build confidence, and prepare for a brighter future. Every girl at Janani Home is encouraged to dream, learn, and grow.

Janani Home operates under the guidance of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and the Department of Women and Child Development, in strict adherence to all statutory requirements governing child protection institutions in India. Our admission process is guided by the CWC, with all placements documented and monitored according to government protocols.

Women Empowerment & Self-Help Groups (SHGs)

Women Empowerment & Self-Help Groups (SHGs)

Empowering women through self-help groups, microcredit, vocational training, entrepreneurship development, and financial inclusion.

Our Women Empowerment programme recognizes that sustainable change begins with economic independence. Since 2008, we have organized women in rural and urban communities around Puducherry into Self-Help Groups (SHGs) — small collectives that meet regularly to save, share knowledge, and support one another.

These groups are not merely savings clubs; they are engines of transformation. Members learn financial literacy, bookkeeping, and collective decision-making. Through partnerships with NABARD and local banks, our SHGs access microcredit to start or expand small businesses — from tailoring and food processing to handicrafts and retail.

Our vocational training centres offer practical skills in areas with real market demand. Women receive hands-on instruction, mentorship from successful entrepreneurs, and ongoing support as they launch their enterprises. We also promote entrepreneurship development and financial inclusion, ensuring women have the tools to participate fully in the economic life of their communities.

The ripple effects are profound. As women earn, they invest in their children's education, improve family nutrition, and gain a voice in household and village decisions. Many SHG members have gone on to become community leaders, trainers, and advocates for other women.

Objectives

  • Build financial literacy and collective savings habits among women
  • Provide access to microcredit for income-generating activities
  • Deliver market-relevant vocational training and mentorship
  • Foster women's leadership and participation in community decision-making

Key Outcomes

  • Over 120 women actively participating in SHGs with measurable savings and credit access
  • Dozens of small businesses launched and sustained by programme graduates
  • Visible increase in women's confidence, mobility, and household influence

"Before joining the self-help group, I had no income of my own. The training and microcredit support changed everything. I started a tailoring business and today I earn enough to support my children's education and help other women in my village."

Lakshmi, SHG Member & Entrepreneur

Impact: By investing in women, we invest in entire families and communities. Our SHG members are proof that when women are empowered, everyone rises.

After-School & Remedial Education Programmes

After-School & Remedial Education Programmes

Academic support, remedial classes, and education support for children across twelve schools.

Education is the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty — yet many children in marginalized communities lack the support they need to succeed in school. Our After-School and Remedial Education Programmes bridge this gap by providing structured academic support and a nurturing environment where children can thrive.

Operating across twelve schools in and around Puducherry and neighbouring regions of Tamil Nadu, our programmes serve children from families with limited literacy, economic stress, and little access to educational resources at home. Our trained tutors and volunteers work closely with teachers to identify learning gaps and provide targeted remedial instruction in mathematics, science, language, and comprehension.

Beyond academics, we emphasize holistic development. Children participate in art, music, sports, and life-skills workshops that build creativity, teamwork, and confidence. Our education support initiatives ensure that no child is left behind. Struggling students receive one-on-one attention, customized learning plans, and patient encouragement that helps them catch up and often exceed expectations. For many children, our after-school centre becomes a second home — a place where they feel valued, supported, and capable.

Objectives

  • Improve academic performance and reduce school dropout rates
  • Provide remedial support for children with learning difficulties
  • Introduce digital literacy and technology-based learning tools
  • Foster holistic development through arts, sports, and life skills

Key Outcomes

  • Significant improvement in exam results and class participation among enrolled children
  • Reduced dropout rates in partner schools
  • Children developing confidence, curiosity, and aspirations for higher education

"The after-school programme became my second classroom. The tutors patiently guided me, and for the first time I began to excel in mathematics and science. I am now preparing for college — something my family never thought possible."

Ramesh, Education Programme Beneficiary

Impact: Every child who discovers a love for learning in our programme is a future professional, leader, and changemaker in the making.

Rural Health & Awareness Programmes

Rural Health & Awareness Programmes

Health camps, cancer screening, preventive health education, and rural water and sanitation awareness for underserved villages.

Access to healthcare remains one of the most pressing challenges for rural communities around Puducherry and neighbouring districts of Tamil Nadu. Many villages have no clinic, no regular doctor visits, and limited awareness of preventive health measures. Our Rural Health and Awareness Programmes exist to fill this critical gap.

Through regular health camps, we bring essential medical services directly to the doorsteps of underserved villages. Our camps offer general health check-ups, eye screenings, dental assessments, and specialized services including cancer screening for women. By partnering with local hospitals and medical professionals, we ensure that patients identified with health concerns receive timely referrals and follow-up care.

Prevention is at the heart of our health strategy. We conduct community health education sessions and awareness generation programmes on nutrition, hygiene, maternal health, child care, rural water and sanitation, and disease prevention. These sessions are designed to be culturally sensitive and participatory, encouraging community members to ask questions, share concerns, and adopt healthier practices.

Our cancer screening programme has been particularly impactful. In villages where women had never undergone screening, early detection has led to life-saving treatment. The programme not only addresses immediate health needs but also creates a culture where seeking healthcare is normalized and encouraged. We also provide assistance to homeless and disadvantaged individuals, ensuring they receive the care they need.

Objectives

  • Bring essential healthcare services to remote and underserved villages
  • Conduct preventive cancer screenings and health check-ups
  • Build community awareness of nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention
  • Establish referral pathways to hospitals for advanced care

Key Outcomes

  • Hundreds of villagers receive health screenings who would otherwise have no access
  • Early detection of serious conditions leading to timely treatment and saved lives
  • Improved community hygiene practices and health-seeking behaviour

"Our village had never seen a health camp before Prime Trust arrived. The cancer screening saved my life through early detection. Prime Trust does not just run programmes — they save lives."

Meena, Rural Health Programme Beneficiary

Impact: Health is the foundation of every other opportunity. By bringing healthcare to the last mile, we ensure that illness does not derail the futures of the communities we serve.
